Whitney Richardson is a multidisciplinary storyteller and project leader, bridging live experiences, visual art, and technology to gather and inform intellectually curious audiences around the world.
She is currently an Aesthetics Scientist at Apple, where she works alongside senior software engineers to help shape the features for the world’s most popular camera.
Before joining the Apple team, Whitney spent the past decade working at The New York Times in a variety of roles straddling the newsroom and business side. As the Global Events Manager for The Times, Whitney led the team awarded a Times Publisher’s Award for launching The New York Times Climate Hub in 2021, a nine-day in-person and live-streamed event running alongside the COP26 climate conference in Glasgow, Scotland.
Whitney also launched The Times’s first international photo and video exhibition on climate change, “Carbon’s Casualties”. The exhibition toured to London, Paris, Scotland, and Hong Kong, reaching thousands of audiences in person, and virtually.
She was previously the Photo Editor covering business and technology for The Times, where she assigned and directed photography, illustrations, and video concepts formatted for print and digital presentations. Prior to this, she was the producer of “The Lens” photography blog, where she co-produced for the 2015 and 2016 New York Photo Portfolio Review. Her published writing focuses on the intersection of art, technology and media in Africa.
Whitney has lectured on trends in the media landscape at Yale University School of Arts, Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism, UNESCO, and World Press Photo Foundation. She also wrote the forward to Performance Review, by Endia Beal.
