As Moore’s Law approaches its physical limits, the race is on to discover what comes next in computing. With AI usage accelerating at an unprecedented pace, the environmental impact is becoming impossible to ignore - by 2030, AI-driven electricity consumption could hit 1,500 TWh, rivalling the total power usage of India today.

But it's not just about electricity. The broader resource demands - greenhouse gas emissions, water consumption, and thermal management - are pushing current computing models to the brink. The need for sustainable, energy-efficient alternatives is not just important; it's urgent.

Some of these solutions stay rooted in silicon, reimagining what's possible with traditional architectures. Others venture into the extraordinary - quantum computing, photonics, and hybrid approaches that promise to redefine performance, scalability, and efficiency.

In this session, held in The Guildhall on Market Square, we’ll explore the frontiers of compute innovation with leaders who are shaping its future.

Expect bold insights and real-world perspectives as we ask:

  • Is it time to reinvent silicon?
  • How close are we to commercial quantum computing?
  • Will photonics finally deliver on its transformative promise?

Join us for a deep dive into the technologies redefining the future of computation - at the intersection of performance, power, and possibility.

Please use the Guildhall Street Entrance (opposite Shake Shack restaurant) and report to the registration desk on the 1st floor on arrival.

Getting to the Guildhall

  • By Car: The Guildhall has no car parking onsite. The nearest car parks are the Grand Arcade Car Park (5-minute walk), or Queen Anne Terrace Car Park (16-minute walk). Cambridge also offers Park and Ride services.
  • By Train: The Guildhall is approximately a 25-minute walk from Cambridge train station. Upon leaving the station, go straight down Station Road and turn right onto Hills Road. Walk down Hills Road, which leads onto Regent Street. Continue along Regent Street, then turn left into Downing Street. Walk straight until you reach the Market Square, where the Guildhall is located directly opposite the Cambridge Market.
  • By Bicycle: The Grand Arcade cycle park has covered space for over 200 cycles. It closes every night at 11.30pm. Cyclists can access the cycle park from Corn Exchange Street – when travelling from Downing Street, the entrance is on the right after the car park entrance – and pedestrians can enter from Grand Arcade or Fisher Square.

Bag Policy
The Guildhall operates a bag policy to keep you safe and do not allow large bags into the venue for security reasons. Please do not bring any large bags such as travel cases or large back packs. Handbags, small rucksacks and laptop cases are permitted.
